Manuka vs ordinary honey
The most expensive honey in the world against a supermarket jar. One difference is real chemistry; most of the rest is not what it is sold as.
Which to choose
Buy manuka if you want to taste it, or you are curious about it, and you are content that it is an expensive and unusual honey. Do not buy it expecting it to do something for you when eaten — that case is not supported. For a cough or a sore throat, any honey works as well and costs a fraction. If you like manuka's earthy, mineral character specifically, ling heather honey is its closest relative in flavour at a fraction of the price.
Why these get compared
Manuka can cost thirty times as much as a supermarket jar, and the question of whether it does thirty times as much is the most common honey question there is.

Where the difference is overstated
Almost everything except the flavour and the chemistry. The MGO number is real and measures a compound, not a benefit — a higher number is more of a substance whose effect on an eater has not been established. And the antibacterial framing invites a comparison with antibiotics that nothing supports.
