Melipona vs Tetragonula
The two genera that carry stingless beekeeping on opposite sides of the world. One is honey-bee-sized with small colonies, the other tiny with large ones — and that inversion decides almost everything about keeping them.
Which to choose
Not a consumer choice so much as a geographic one — you keep whichever genus lives where you are. If you are buying the honey, Melipona honeys tend to be sharper and more floral and Tetragonula honeys more resinous and tart, but the flora within a few hundred metres of the nest matters more than the genus does, because both forage over very short distances.
Why these get compared
Almost everything written in English about stingless bees describes one of these two and implies it applies to the tribe. It does not: a Mexican meliponiculturist and a Malaysian kelulut keeper are working with animals that differ more from each other than a Carniolan honey bee differs from an Italian one.

Where the difference is overstated
How different the honeys taste. Both are wet, acidic and unlike Apis honey, and the gap between two Melipona honeys from different landscapes is usually wider than the gap between the genera.
