Definition

Documented in the southern Urals for over a thousand years and still practised in the Shulgan-Tash reserve in Bashkortostan. Hollows are cut high in living pines, worked by rope, and the honey is pressed rather than spun. It is recognised as intangible cultural heritage and is among the last surviving forms of tree beekeeping in Europe.
