Queen cell
An enlarged vertical cell in which a new queen is reared.

Definition
Queen cells hang downward from the comb and are far larger than worker cells. Their number and position tell a beekeeper what the colony is doing: a few cells on the face of the comb suggest supersedure, many along the bottom edge suggest swarming, and cells converted from worker cells suggest an emergency.
