A cylinder of bark stripped from a tree and hung in the canopy, used across the miombo woodlands.

Definition
The traditional hive of central and southern Africa, hung high in the canopy and worked at night with smoke. It supports a substantial certified-organic honey trade. It also requires stripping bark from living trees, which is a genuine conservation question that top-bar hive programmes are intended to address.
