Top-bar hive
A hive in which bees build comb downward from bars with no frame or foundation.
Beekeeping
Definition
Comb hangs from a bar and is cut off to harvest, so the wax is not returned to the bees. Simpler and cheaper to make than framed hives, and widely promoted in development beekeeping as a step up from destructive fixed-comb harvest. Yields are lower and inspection is more limited than with movable frames.
