A plant that photosynthesises and also draws water and nutrients from another plant's roots.

Definition
Yellow rattle and red bartsia both tap into grass roots. Yellow rattle's parasitism reduces grass vigour by up to half, which is what opens space for wildflowers and makes it the enabling species in meadow creation. It is an annual and must set seed each year, so the cut must come after seed drop.
