How many flowers does a bee visit?

Between about fifty and a thousand flowers on a single trip, and ten to fifteen trips a day — so somewhere in the low thousands daily. A 450 g jar of honey represents roughly two million flower visits and around 80,000 kilometres of flying, spread across the lifetimes of about a thousand bees.

The flower count per trip varies enormously with the plant, and that is the useful part. A borage floret refills within minutes, so a bee can work the same small patch repeatedly. A flower offering a trace of nectar requires hundreds of visits to fill a crop. This is why nectar productivity per flower matters more than flower count when judging a plant.
Why the colony is the right unit
Solitary bees do this differently
A solitary bee is not filling a communal store. She is provisioning individual cells, one pollen loaf at a time, and a single cell may take a day's foraging. A red mason bee completes perhaps one or two cells a day across a four to six week adult life — which is a few dozen offspring for an entire lifetime of work, and no honey at all.
