Ocelli
Three simple eyes on top of a bee's head, detecting light intensity rather than images.
Bees
Definition
Distinct from the two large compound eyes. Ocelli detect light level and horizon position and are used in orientation and in judging when it is light enough to fly. Their role is navigational rather than visual in the ordinary sense.
