How honey is produced here

Sunflower is the dominant crop flow, on a scale that makes Ukrainian sunflower honey a global commodity. Linden from the northern forests and buckwheat from the centre are the prestige domestic honeys. Production and export have both been severely disrupted since 2022.

Honey in Ukraine

Petro Prokopovych invented the movable-frame hive in Ukraine in 1814, decades before Langstroth, and ran an apiary of several thousand colonies with a school attached. Modern beekeeping has two independent origins and this is the older one.

Deciding between two of them

  • Acacia vs linden honey Both are pale central European tree honeys with short intense flows. One tastes of almost nothing and the other is among the most aromatic honeys there is.
